# With Yubikey

Before getting started, make sure you have configured your Yubikey with PINs that you have assigned and not the default PINs that come with the Yubikey.

## <mark style="color:red;">❊ About Generating with Yubikey</mark>

Unlike the PIV interface, there is no way to generate GPG keys directly on the Yubikey. You must create them using methods such as the [**GPG command-line**](/yubikey5/gpg/generate-keys/with-commandline.md) or GUI software like [**Kleopatra** ](/yubikey5/gpg/generate-keys/with-kleopatra.md)and then transfer them to your Yubikey.
